The 2006 Marietta Soap Box Derby came to an exciting conclusion for all of MetroAtlanta Ambulance's sponsored drivers. Heidi Seabaugh, Ethan Tull, Kyle Partello, Abby Seabaugh and Shelby Salters all placed well in their divisions.
The local qualifying race of the All American Soap Box Derby was held Saturday, June3, 2006 and all the cars sponsored by MetroAtlanta Ambulance finished near the top with Heidi Seabaugh racing for the Championship.
MetroAtlanta Ambulance Vice President and Local Soap Box Derby Director, Devan Seabaugh stated, "I'm proud of all the racers but I have to admit I did have my favorites. MetroAtlanta Ambulance sponsored 5 cars in the event this year and each year prior one of the drivers has had a shot at the Championship. This year was no exception. We appreciate the support from our President/CEO Pete Quinones and our employees. I haven't figured out if the kids or the parents are having the most fun!"
The Kiwanis Club of Marietta hosts the local race of the All American Soap Box Derby in the Parking lot of Marietta High School in Marietta, GA.. More than 38 racers competed for the opportunity to represent the greater Atlanta area and the state of Georgia in the All American Soap Box Derby Championships in Akron, OH on July 21, 2006 where more than 500 kids from all over the world will compete for the title of World Champion.
In the Stock Division, Ambree Garren, daughter of Al and Naomi Garren of Hiram, didn't lose a heat all day until Ethan Tull, sponsored by MetroAtlanta Ambulance gave her a run for the money late in the day. Ethan, son of Traci and David Tull of Powder Springs, beat Ambree in the last heat of the day causing a runoff for the Championship. At the end of the final heat, Ambree edged out Ethan by a time of .038 seconds to take first place and earn her a spot at the All American Soap Box Derby World Championships held in July of this year.
The Super Stock Division came down two experienced racers, 2005 Marietta Local Champion Heidi Seabaugh, sponsored by MetroAtlanta Ambulance and daughter of Devan and Beth Seabaugh of Marietta and rally racer Leah Garren, daughter of Al and Naomi Garren of Hiram. Leah Garren had not lost a race all day and Heidi had only lost one making for an exciting finish. At the end of the final heat, Leah edged out Heidi by .015 seconds, the closest race of the day to take the Super Stock Championship and earn her spot at the All American Soap Box Derby World Championships.
